It is no wonder that in a place like Hawaii, where there is such an abundance of flora and fauna that there would be a booming interest in phytomedicine. Phytomedicine, also known as herbal medicine, is an ancient discipline which is only recently being examined as a serious alternative to pharmaceuticals manufactured by large drug companies and distributed by physicians. Although many people are still suspicious of phytomedicine, it is really not so hard to accept, even by those rooted in the scientific process. After all, most of the drugs which we use today, things like aspirin, pepto bismal, and other common medications, are derived from natural remedies which have been known to man for eons. It is logical to believe that many plants, and there are plenty of varieties to experiment with in Hawaii, can offer remedies for many ailments which we are striving to find relief from.
